"Carmen”, fue el tercer ballet narrativo creado por Antonio Gades, después de "Don Juan” y "Bodas de Sangre”, y el primer fruto escénico de su estrecha colaboración con el cineasta Carlos Saura.
La obra está inspirada, principalmente en el libro de Merimée. Para la música se sirven de Bizet y la contraponen por primera vez en la escena con la música flamenca en directo.

"Pastora" is a clear example of Hidalgo's impetus to renew the visual imaginary of flamenco. Thus, through some thirty works with different supports ranging from drawing, painting, video creation and even artistic intervention, he arrives at the figure of the Niña de los Peines.
As Miguel Ángel Rivero, professor at the University of Seville, recounted, this project was born from the collaboration of Patricio Hidalgo in the documentary "Woman, gypsy and queen of cante", directed by Pedro Callejas de Tesela Comunicación and the participation of Canal Sur TV, a documentary in which Patricio contributed seven video creations inspired by seven cantes by Pastora.
