The gala will be held on November 16th in Sanlúcar de Barrameda incorporating a Special Award for Flamenco Research, which will be awarded to Manuel Bohórquez.
The Auditorium of La Merced de Sanlúcar de Barrameda will be the venue for the 5th Gala of the International Flamenco Awards. This event, organized by the Andalusian School of Flamenco (EFA), will take place on November 16th, 2020.
The gala is always held coinciding with World Flamenco Day, and this year, it will be even more emblematic as it commemorates the tenth anniversary of the Unesco declaration of Flamenco as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
A special edition where the highest award will be given to the prestigious guitar teacher and composer, Manolo Sanlúcar, in recognition of his career and professional trajectory, a great defender of jondo art, always at the creative peak of flamenco.

The Bienal Canela de San Roque, in memory of the longed-for cantaor from San Roque, reaches its 3rd edition with a poster that combines artists from the area (among them, 'Canelas y Pañeros') with other Jerez residents (Dolores Agudamientos, Juana la del Pipa or Diego del Morao), Sevillians (Remedios Amaya and Farruquito), from Lebrija (Inés Bacán) or Cádiz (Juan Villar, who will be honored), among others. The appointment is from October 10th to 24th.
All the performances will take place at the Juan Luis Galiardo Theater starting at 9:00 p.m. and the measures required by the health authorities will be kept.

You could resort to that of the state of grace, that moment in which everything is favorable and things seem to go well naturally. Translated that idea to art, it would materialize the moment you observe that an artist, like the one at hand, seems to be capable of giving everything that she carries inside and also wearing her best version.
Obviously, an explanation is necessary: the bailaora from Cádiz María Moreno is not a stranger and has arrived at this appointment after her two previous solo works received recognition in Jerez and here, in Seville, where she won the Giraldillo Revelation award in the last edition of the Bienal de Flamenco. His projection is, therefore, more than known, and the premiere of his new work has confirmed it in a surprisingly apotheosis way: that the staff leave a show in such a sick state is only explained by an exceptional episode of transmission or infatuation. Last Tuesday, the Seville Flamenco Biennial presented the full program of the performances that will take place at the Real Alcázar through an act in which some of the leading artists of the poster participated, such as Diego Villegas, Daniel Casares, Joselito Acedo, Ana Crismán , Javier Patino, Andrés Barrios, Manuel de la Luz and P. Ricardo Miño; accompanied by the delegate of Urban Habitat, Culture and Tourism of the Seville City Council, Antonio Muñoz; and the director of the Bienal de Flamenco, Antonio Zoido.
The Mudejar Palace of Seville, during the XXI edition of the flamenco cycle, will become the headquarters of flamenco music in its many forms and expressions. Because we must not forget that the flamenco universe breaks molds and the instrumental base is an example of this. For this reason, in this space, in addition to the traditional flamenco guitar, we can enjoy flamenco through the piano, wind instruments and even the harp.

We continue to reveal premieres of the XXI Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. One of the closest will be the one that takes place today, September 14 at the Central Theater. Its protagonist is the Jerez-born bailaora María del Mar Moreno, who presents "Memoria Viva" in this jondo cycle.
Moreno highlights that this new show marks the beginning of a new professional phase, freer and more authentic, consolidating her most personal stamp, "La Moreno de Jerez".
In "Memoria Viva", the artist vindicates her multiple facets as a dancer, actress, philologist ... from cante, and always "with my land and my ancestors as a flag, because they are the foundations from which I draw my strength and my freedom", Moreno points out.
It is a necessary change, for as the bailaora herself assures us, to evolve, to take "one more step forward.” All of this, in a social context marked by confinement, the pandemic, the coronavirus… which has forced everyone to change. "Even from the worst moments, you can get a positive lesson. It has given us the opportunity to rethink and rediscover ourselves ”.

The online flamenco modality has prevailed this year with great acceptance and quite good audience figures.
The coronavirus has forced a change in format in many of the flamenco festivals and events that have been held to date. An example of this has been the Flamenco de Jerez program in 2020, which had to adapt to the circumstances so as not to prevent the public from continuing to enjoy Jerez jondo art.
Once all these flamenco events have been held, the organization has presented a balance whose data and figures reveal quite favorable results.
It should not be forgotten that in the midst of a pandemic, the Jerez City Council had to work intensely to draw up a new forceful and safe action plan, always maintaining a relationship with flamenco agents: artists, supporters, programmers ...
In this way, after the success during the confinement of the #FlamencoDesdeCasa project, in the months of May and June, the format was repeated with the series #FlamencoEnLaAzotea. It has been a program developed in order to promote the heritage of Jerez, its young artists, and, as something fundamental, to thank the agents who have acted against Covid-19 in the hardest moments.

Rocío Molina makes an impact with the extract from her ‘Guitar Trilogy’ at the XXI Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla.
Few artists have their audacity: in the same space, where two editions of this Sevillian event offered four hours of improvisation, the Malaga bailaora Rocío Molina has presented —two sessions in a single day— an extract of what will be her ambitious Trilogy of the guitar, a dance studio with a background of sonantas, which is presumed to be very thoughtful and worked and which the artist makes correspond with her personal emotional and creative state after the still close motherhood. Molina has spoken of pause and the search for naturalness in order, in this way, to aspire to a greater expressive deepening. Nothing new in Rocío, always an incessant search, although, on this occasion, the very nature of the project ends up determining its expression.

In addition, 2,947 connections followed the broadcast from beginning to end, with 2,674 users from YouTube, 186 from Facebook and 87 through the web. We must not forget that to these figures we must add the viewers of Doce TV Mairena and Radio Mairena.

The Seville Flamenco Biennial continues its course, in an atypical year, dodging the continuous obstacles that are being placed on culture due to the special situation that the coronavirus is causing.
One of the next premieres that we can experience will be on September 10th at the Central Theater in Seville. Anabel Veloso will arrive at this space to present her new work, "Oro sobre Azul".
A show in which the "saudade" and the flamenco experience will go hand in hand as the artist from Almeria will take us to her Portuguese origins on the part of her father, entering fully into the Portuguese culture and its traditions.
Flamenco with the smell of Fado, in a setting in which ceramics from both countries will be the aesthetic pretext for the bailaora, far from building a fusion, to bring out her two halves, the Portuguese and the Andalusian.
