A new "Voice" for Flamenco piano

Yulia Romantsova A New "Voice" for Flamenco piano

Yulia Romantsova
Yulia Romantsova
The Belarusian pianist and composer achieves a symbiosis between classic and flamenco sound on the ‘Rojo y negro’ album.

From the Belarusian lands, she has come to the heat of flamenco to stay, the same as many years ago, she came to Murcia to stay here and take root in our lands. She came accompanying her father, also a professional musician, to a folk festival, and fell in love with our culture, with our music, although there was also a love story at the origin of everything.

Her latest album, "Rojo y negro” (an allusion to the colors of flamenco, despite the coincidence with the title of Stendhal's novel) attests to this.

José Valencia, Farruquito, El Pele, Antonio Canales, Inés Bacán, Dorantes, Tomás de Perrate, Rocío Molina, Israel Galván, Andrés Marín, María Terremoto, la Tremendita or Patricia Guerrero will be part of some of the 51 shows in this cycle .

And like every two years, Seville is once again the world capital of flamenco thanks to its Biennial which in 2020 will celebrate its XXIth edition. A cycle dedicated to "jondo" art promoted by the Seville City Council and in collaboration with Diputación and the Junta de Andalucía, which comes as a fundamental piece to achieve the social and economic reactivation of the city.

We say that it is a special edition because the Covid-19 health and economic crisis has forced changes to the format of this cycle to adapt to social needs and circumstances.

A total of 20 young people will fight for the first prize in the different singing contests "Naranjito de Triana", Accompaniment Guitar, and in the "Manolo Soler" Dance.

The IV edition of the 2020 Flamenco Talent Contests organized by the Cristina Heeren Foundation in collaboration with Acciona, already has its twenty finalists. This is a special edition in many ways since the first phase has been held in full confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic, changing its working method. On this occasion, the applicants have had to send videos, which have been valued by the faculty of the Cristina Heeren School of Flamenco, choosing their finalists from among them. Without forgetting that the participation record has been reached in 2020.

We recall that in these contests an artist between 16 and 30 years old is awarded a total of eight study grants and prizes of up to 1,400 euros to "support the training of new talents since the future of flamenco is in their hands" and as Cristina Heeren herself affirms.

The voice of the Granada-born cantaora Estrella Morente stars in the video that the Board of the Alhambra and Generalife has released on their social networks to promote the monument on the occasion of its reopening.

"I have dreamed of returning to the Alhambra many times in these days of confinement and as a result of that desire, 'Vuelvo a la Alhambra' was born in a natural way," says the singer, adding about her work: "it is nothing but my veneration turned into music, my closeness and my passion for this monument that means so much in my life ".

For Morente, who has freely given up the use of this song for the promotional campaign #VuelveALaAlhambra, it is an "immense luck" to accompany the Alhambra in its reopening with "a song to its greatness and beauty".

In this unusual 2020, the tenth anniversary of the singer Enrique Morente is commemorated. An artist who has always closely linked to Catalonia thanks to "El Taller de Músics" and, more specifically, the figure of Lluís Cabrera, its founder.

Already in 2017, specifically on December 13 when it was exactly seven years since the singer's death, Taller de Músics premiered at the International Jazz Festival, within the framework of the International Jazz Festival, the newly created show Enrique Morente: "In Memoriam", a tribute in a requiem format dedicated to the artist.

It was a show that had a band made up of more than thirty artists under the direction of Joan Albert Amargós and with original music by the pianist and composer Joan Díaz.

Now, from "El Taller de Músics" and Seed Music, on the tenth anniversary of Morente's death, they do not want to miss a new tribute to this great singer, so they want to share two unpublished videos corresponding to the tracks.

To Juanito Valderrama

To Juanito Valderrama on his 104th birthday

Juanito Valderrama
Juanito Valderrama
On May 24, 2020, Juanito Valderrama, who was one of the most important artists of the 20th century, would be one hundred and four years old.

For those who did not have the opportunity to know his life and work, I will say that Juanito Valderrama was practically one of the most important flamingos from 1950 to 1980.

Due to his style, he belonged to that group of virtuosos who flourished under the protection of the current of prices that prevailed since the times of Breva or Silverio, which would remain in force until after the first half of the 20th century.

Juan would start his career around 1933 as part of the La Niña de la Puebla show.
